What does a good Data Scientist / ML / AI resume look like?

A good data scientist resume should effectively showcase your skills, experience, and achievements in the field of data science.

Here are some key elements to consider when crafting a data scientist resume:

  1. What does your current company do? We don’t automatically know what every company’s industry and specialisations are.
  2. Quantify your impact: Emphasize your contributions and quantify them in terms of business impact rather than just model performance metrics. Highlight how your work has improved processes, generated revenue, or provided valuable insights. For example, you can mention how you increased efficiency by saving a specific amount of time or improved accuracy by a certain percentage.
  3. Highlight relevant projects: If you have limited work experience, include noteworthy data science projects you have worked on. Describe these projects in terms of their quantitative impact, demonstrating the results achieved using data-driven insights. Even if the impact seems small, such as saving a few minutes per movie, it demonstrates your ability to measure impact and deliver tangible results.
  4. Customize for each job: Tailor your resume to the specific job you’re applying for by mentioning the target business by name and incorporating relevant keywords from the job description. This customization shows your genuine interest in the position and helps your resume stand out.
  5. Skills section: Place emphasis on your skills, especially if you have limited professional experience. List technical skills relevant to data science, such as programming languages (Python, R), statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and database querying. This section provides an opportunity to demonstrate your willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
  6. Include relevant certifications and education: Highlight your educational background, including your degree in a related field such as computer science, mathematics, or statistics. Additionally, mention any relevant certifications you have obtained, such as advanced analytics or data science certifications.
  7. Provide work experience details: If you have prior work experience in data science or related fields, provide a concise summary of your responsibilities, achievements, and the impact you made in those roles. Highlight your ability to analyze data, identify trends, communicate findings, and make data-driven recommendations. Mention any experience working with big data technologies like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or cloud migration skills if relevant to the position.
  8. Remember to tailor your resume to the specific requirements of each job you apply for.

Use these guidelines as a starting point and adapt them based on your individual experiences and the job description and feel free to get in touch if you need help.
