I was fortunate enough to see Mark in action at the “Big Data in Use” Conference | Big Data Week London 2016 and here is quick Q & A.
A: Hi Mark, what was the motivation behind setting up Datafloq?
M: I started with Datafloq four years ago and I have always been interested in the latest trends that affect organisations. The world is changing so rapidly at the moment and organisations are having difficulties keeping up with all the disruption. I like to help organisations better understand these topics and how they affect the business, which is why I started Datafloq and why I give keynotes around the globe. So far, it has been a great journey, but we are only getting started.
A: As 2016 is drawing to a close how has the year been for Datafloq – highlights & challenges?
M: 2016 has been a very good year for Datafloq. We have expanded the platform, developed a recruitment platform on Datafloq to find the best big data talent and redesigned the platform. The adoption of big data is only increasing and we see that in the traffic for Datafloq as well. 2017 will be the Year of Intelligence, so we expect all of growth in 2017.
A: What have been the most exciting developments in 2016?
M: 2016 has been the year that Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain really took off. It is great to see that more organisations are moving towards these technologies, as they are so important for organisations. Of course, artificial intelligence and blockchain also create a lot of challenges for organisations, but overall, it offers tremendous possibilities for organisations who can leverage these trends.
A: What do you think 2017 has in store for Data and Analytics?
M: I just wrote an extensive article on this, please visit: https://datafloq.com/read/the-top-7-big-data-trends-for-2017/2493
A: What are the plans for Datafloq in 2017?
M: Datafloq continues to expand and we are looking into the possibilities of applying more artificial intelligence, creating a better experience for our readers, contributors and organisations that we work with.
