Sumner & Scott are looking for a Developer to join a marketing technology and consultancy company in Birmingham. They help major brands to find, encourage and recognise customers who love what they do. They use their proprietary technology to deliver personalised digital campaigns with with minimum recourse to their own development teams.
They are a startup with fourteen employees, with offices in Birmingham and London.

As a Junior Developer you will work as part of the growing, Birmingham-based Development team to create innovative and elegant solutions for their core platform. These are the tools they currently use and with which you would work:

They are looking for a Junior Developer with strong, well-rounded skills. You will have a passion for software development and be able to demonstrate experience of developing web applications/technologies. Any experience or interest in mobile development is a welcome bonus.

You will have experience with:
SQL (ideally PostgreSQL)
Git and knowledge of popular workflows
contributing to/maintaining Open Source projects (issue creation/management, pull requests)
You will demonstrate:
a pragmatic approach to each solution, experience in evaluating possible language/stack and making informed technology decisions;
experience working in a team;
experience working independently; and
experience working with client developers.
We will look favorably on candidates with some of the following:
automated testing (TDD, BDD)
Golang, or if not, one of Java, C, C++, or Ruby
designing and developing RESTful APIs
CSS preprocessors (Less, Sass, Stylus)
cloud service providers (AWS, Heroku, Rackspace, Digital Ocean etc.)
native mobile development
a mathematical/analytical background; and
involvement in meetups/conferences.
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field is a plus but attitude and experience come first. A demonstrable portfolio will hold more weight than any academic accreditation.
Your initial salary will be between £24k and £28k, plus performance-based stock options.
